Their is a misconception about the cult classic movie Andaz Apna Apna (1994) that it flopped at box-office. Here's a conclusion to that is it really "flopped" or it was made out to be a "flop".
Let's come to opening first, both the movies - Suhaag and Andaz Apna Apna has started with excellent response in the 1st week with Andaz Apna not faring encouragingly in East Punjab and Bihar.

As it can be seen that Andaz Apna Apna had maintained very well compared to Suhaag which dropped heavily after initial 1st week.
Andaz Apna Apna was released in limited capacity cinemas as it was delayed project with poor publicity.Rajkumar Santhoshi also attributed to the fact Andaz Apna Apna not doing well as per their expectations because the film was not distributed well due to a new distributor. While on the other hand, Suhaag was released on bigger capacity cinemas and yet it collections dropped heavily after initial week. Andaz Apna Apna is declared flop by Box Office India which is a not true as the movie had done very well at the box-office. The top three most reputed magazines of those times Film Information, Trade Guide and Screen Magazine had it as Commision Earner, Overflow and Hit respectively. Box Office India also called Andaz Apna Apna a disaster in Delhi but the collections are almost comparable to Suhaag which is considered as a hit in Delhi despite lesser capacity cinemas
A Trade report of January 1995 declared Andaz Apna Apna as 'A' class Hit with 1.25 crores per major territory and West Bengal doing a semi hit business of 80-85 Lakhs. On the other hand, Suhaag did business of over 1 crore inper major territory.
